Hey all, Welcome to Alexis' Blog, in which we will post little updates and photos of what our wee girl has been up to...
Alexis has just learnt how to push herself on her ride-on! Well really her legs have only just gotten long enough for her to be able to get some traction.. She can climb onto it easily too, but the dismount leaves a little to be desired ;-)
today for some fun, i made alexis some 'suspended slime' to play with.. its a weird substance that is solid until you move it & turns into a gooey liquid.. but because i put her into her highchair to play with it, and gave her a spoon, she thought she was supposed to eat it & got all distressed because it was gross! (its cornflour, water & food colouring..) but she kept trying.. poor baby!
Poor Alexis has been feeling pretty rotten the past few days, with a slight cold, and her first top tooth coming through :-( so when today blossomed into a lovely sunny day, after a run of horrendous ones, i filled the paddling pool, piled it full of balls and set her loose! Her first paddling pool experience.. and it was a hit! She especially liked being able to get in & out whenever she liked, and also throwing the balls out for me to throw back in :-D
Both of these were taken just before i took the tree down, on the 6th of jan.. just one year apart! Same tree, same spot, same baby!

It was a wonderful sunny day for Alexis' birthday, and we headed out to the zoo! It was a pretty quick trip round (in theory, actually took 4 hours) because we had to get home to prepare for dinner. The kids, including Alexis, got to feed the giraffes! We got to see a tiny bit of tiger (the stomach i think), a tiny bit of red panda (the back) and a tiny bit of hippo (the ears - what else on a hippo could be tiny?!) and a good meercat brawl! We bought a zoo pass so that we can go any time for 'free', which should be very cool!
I spent the whole time icing her cake, which was a chocolate number 1, which sandwiched chocolate icing & two layers (yikes..) of blue butter icing on the outside, and decorated with a wee 'A 1' quilt & pillow, to match our bedtime theme, and alexis' name, all made out of royal icing (and the whole cake was vegan! but yummy..). We covered the lounge floor in blankets, popped our tresle table on the ground propped up by a couple of fat textbooks, covered with another blanket as a tablecloth (polar fleece - really easy to wash & stain-resistant heh heh) and had everyone sitting on pillows & cushions :D Meanwhile paul was cooking up a feast, not typical toddler birthday party fare - mushroom & tomato puff pasties, garlic pita breads, and a huge platter of yummy vegan chow-mein!
heh heh heh.. side by side comparison of 3 months old and 1 year! the only real thing that has changed is that she's grown some hair and a neck! 
yikes... tomorrow is Alexis' first birthday! how scary! Our tiny little blob is becoming a young lady.. she's walking, talking (well trying to, she says "dad-dad" for dad, and "mum-mum" for food.. *sigh* i kid you not), has just learnt to point with her index finger rather than a whole fist, and is generally attempting to assert her authority whenever possible!
It has already been reconfigured several times, and some of us have been caught thinking "ooh if i just had another couple of curves, and maybe another switching point..." note the "i".. and alexis got some new books, which she adores! she tries to read them to us, and points out pictures.. kadyn got a huge friction-powered car transporter with 8 f-p sports cars on it! (sorry, i just have to quote the packaging- "Simulating the true styles and making carefully. Handsome Appearance. Vivid and great in style. To have both the quality of tenacity. To be highly praised and appreciable by consuming public." hee hee.. thesaurus anyone?) Plus alexis has already stolen kadyns new magnetic white board & magnetic letters, and has been having fun with her Hug-A-Planet..
Just before xmas we took the kids to Butterfly Creek.
