1 Year Old!!

Our baby girl is one year old!!

It was a wonderful sunny day for Alexis' birthday, and we headed out to the zoo! It was a pretty quick trip round (in theory, actually took 4 hours) because we had to get home to prepare for dinner. The kids, including Alexis, got to feed the giraffes! We got to see a tiny bit of tiger (the stomach i think), a tiny bit of red panda (the back) and a tiny bit of hippo (the ears - what else on a hippo could be tiny?!) and a good meercat brawl! We bought a zoo pass so that we can go any time for 'free', which should be very cool!

We spent far too long at the zoo, considering we had invited people round for dinner at 5.30pm! I spent the whole time icing her cake, which was a chocolate number 1, which sandwiched chocolate icing & two layers (yikes..) of blue butter icing on the outside, and decorated with a wee 'A 1' quilt & pillow, to match our bedtime theme, and alexis' name, all made out of royal icing (and the whole cake was vegan! but yummy..). We covered the lounge floor in blankets, popped our tresle table on the ground propped up by a couple of fat textbooks, covered with another blanket as a tablecloth (polar fleece - really easy to wash & stain-resistant heh heh) and had everyone sitting on pillows & cushions :D Meanwhile paul was cooking up a feast, not typical toddler birthday party fare - mushroom & tomato puff pasties, garlic pita breads, and a huge platter of yummy vegan chow-mein!

Alexis had a fabulous time, she loved having other kids around, and spent the whole time 'chatting' to people & showing people her presents! She really is becoming a proper little girl!

heh heh heh.. side by side comparison of 3 months old and 1 year! the only real thing that has changed is that she's grown some hair and a neck!

Only one day til big-girl-hood!

yikes... tomorrow is Alexis' first birthday! how scary! Our tiny little blob is becoming a young lady.. she's walking, talking (well trying to, she says "dad-dad" for dad, and "mum-mum" for food.. *sigh* i kid you not), has just learnt to point with her index finger rather than a whole fist, and is generally attempting to assert her authority whenever possible!

We had a belated xmas today, now that kadyn is down with us, which was really nice, the kids got lots of great stuff, including a wooden train track with a couple of bridges & a bunch of great Thomas trains! It has already been reconfigured several times, and some of us have been caught thinking "ooh if i just had another couple of curves, and maybe another switching point..." note the "i".. and alexis got some new books, which she adores! she tries to read them to us, and points out pictures.. kadyn got a huge friction-powered car transporter with 8 f-p sports cars on it! (sorry, i just have to quote the packaging- "Simulating the true styles and making carefully. Handsome Appearance. Vivid and great in style. To have both the quality of tenacity. To be highly praised and appreciable by consuming public." hee hee.. thesaurus anyone?) Plus alexis has already stolen kadyns new magnetic white board & magnetic letters, and has been having fun with her Hug-A-Planet..

New Beginnings

Here's the basics for those who don't already know-
She was born on Wednesday 4th January 2006, at 7.09pm. She weighed 3755grams (8pounds 4ounces), and had a full head of hair, and all the recommended fingers and toes.
Her full name is Alexis Zoe Greenfield, not named after anyone, or for any particular reason, apart from the fact that we thought it sounded good, and her initials don't spell anything silly.
She is a capricorn (like her mum), born in the year of the rooster, and being a wednesdays child is full of woe (apparently...)

She took to feeding almost immediately, and was extremely good at it too. She sleeps well, though she hates being wrapped, much prefers to have her arms free. She hardly ever cries, just grizzles for a couple of seconds then scowls fiercely until mum dives to the rescue...

Basically, we think she's fabulous, but we would no matter what!
