the slime incident...

today for some fun, i made alexis some 'suspended slime' to play with.. its a weird substance that is solid until you move it & turns into a gooey liquid.. but because i put her into her highchair to play with it, and gave her a spoon, she thought she was supposed to eat it & got all distressed because it was gross! (its cornflour, water & food colouring..) but she kept trying.. poor baby!

in other news, i have had to shift some of her photos to another host, so i have put a link on the sidebar to the new site.. i'm just doing it gradually because a) it takes ages, and b) i have to replace the photos in this blog at the same time, because when i delete them from the photo site, they disapear from the blog *sigh*.... i've also been adding labels to my posts, which will mean you can search for posts by subject :-D i'm also doing it to my craft blog, where its slightly more relevant! lol (i've also updated my craft blog today..)

1 Year Old!!

Our baby girl is one year old!!

It was a wonderful sunny day for Alexis' birthday, and we headed out to the zoo! It was a pretty quick trip round (in theory, actually took 4 hours) because we had to get home to prepare for dinner. The kids, including Alexis, got to feed the giraffes! We got to see a tiny bit of tiger (the stomach i think), a tiny bit of red panda (the back) and a tiny bit of hippo (the ears - what else on a hippo could be tiny?!) and a good meercat brawl! We bought a zoo pass so that we can go any time for 'free', which should be very cool!

We spent far too long at the zoo, considering we had invited people round for dinner at 5.30pm!
I spent the whole time icing her cake, which was a chocolate number 1, which sandwiched chocolate icing & two layers (yikes..) of blue butter icing on the outside, and decorated with a wee 'A 1' quilt & pillow, to match our bedtime theme, and alexis' name, all made out of royal icing (and the whole cake was vegan! but yummy..). We covered the lounge floor in blankets, popped our tresle table on the ground propped up by a couple of fat textbooks, covered with another blanket as a tablecloth (polar fleece - really easy to wash & stain-resistant heh heh) and had everyone sitting on pillows & cushions :D Meanwhile paul was cooking up a feast, not typical toddler birthday party fare - mushroom & tomato puff pasties, garlic pita breads, and a huge platter of yummy vegan chow-mein!

Alexis had a fabulous time, she loved having other kids around, and spent the whole time 'chatting' to people & showing people her presents! She really is becoming a proper little girl!

10 Months Old!

Wow once again I'm amazed at how this year has flown! Our little babe is 10 months old, far too close to 1 year for my liking! She's really come along in leaps & bounds recently, acting more & more like a little kid rather than a baby :-D

She's almost walking now, she loves charging round the room with a little trolley-walker-thingy, and can take a few steps unsupported before (purposely *sigh*) diving into our arms.. She loves reading books, she'll lift one out & turn through the pages & 'read' it out to us... She has also really developed her 'dancing', she now bobs up & down, claps & twists from side to side, its very cute! She likes to talk to us a lot, often telling jokes it would seem (well she thinks they are funny anyway), and so far in context uses "dada" and "Ba" (banana! lol) she's started making "mumum" sounds, so I am hopeful!

On the play front, she likes to strum the guitar, and drum on some little tins we gave her.. She's just started posting pegs into those tins too, and trying to put blocks on top of each other.. She's also just learnt to throw a ball (sort of...) by purposely letting it roll out of her hand & bounce on the floor.. She loves going swimming, and yesterday had her first ride down a big waterslide! (i don't think she was all that impressed!)

On a different note.. we've just recently found out that she is allergic to dairy, egg, peanuts & fish (i have no idea where the peanuts & fish came from as i eat neither!), luckily she hasn't actually eaten any of these yet, because when we found out she had ezcema we made sure we didn't give her any common allergenic foods, because of the link... But that effectively makes her vegan! And since I am still feeding her, and allergens are passed from the mum (in much reduced quantities) makes me a vegan too! So we are doing a major over haul of our diet & trialling new recipes, it hasn't been too bad so far, found some really good meals, some not so good, but nothing horrendous yet! Oh yeah, and she's also learnt to feed herself with a spoon.. Its very cute & not messy at all!

7 months

Well how things have progressed!! Almost a week ago she suddenly started crawling properly, and is now zooming around the place.. and if that wasn't enough in the last week she has finally learnt to sit by herself, she was never interested in staying still before, but now is quite happy to crawl somewhere, grab a toy & sit there playing with it :-D She has just grasped the concept of holding a toy in each hand too, so not having to lean on one hand is a real bonus..
And if THAT wasn't enough, she's started pulling herself up to standing!! She's only done it about four times now, but EEEK! Where has our little baby gone?!

She's now eating kumara, broccoli & carrot :-) She LOVES the broccoli!

oh dear...

We have started solids... A few days ago we decided to try her with some 'real' food, some kumara (a kind of sweet potato for those of you in the uk) mixed with breastmilk, just an icecube of each. At first she was a little unsure, but just sucked it off the spoon, didn't push it out with her tongue at all, so we were quite impressed. She ate quite a bit of it pretty happily, until she decided that she wanted to do it herself.. sigh... luckily she is very good at putting things in her mouth, she has been playing with a spoon for months, so she didn't spread it all over her face! She has now had that for dinner three times, and has taken to it like a pro! Next week we will be trying her with some brocolli... You can check out the pictures by clicking here!

Another development (which is oh so cute!) is that if we put our cheek near her face, and say "Kiss mama/dada" she will lean forward and give us a little open-mouthed kiss! Not quite a kiss technically, but not just a suck either.. but it is soooo cute!!

Oh and Alexis wanted to say- frt hf g uo979 v

Keep checking in!
